Edmund Wilson said “No two persons ever read the same book”, and Angela Carter claimed that “Reading a book is like re-writing it for yourself”.
That is exactly the reason why we created Key Takeaways blog. Entrepreneur offers 5 Tips to Read 100 Books a Year, so not only that you can keep notes for yourself, but you can help others as well in making the right choice while picking some book (from Devana Open Library for example). So, let’s help you in this process.
First of all, please make sure you take notes! It can be footnotes in the book itself, your notebook or whatever you find comfortable. Do this as soon as you find something that inspires you as one of the key takeaways of the book.
There is no limit to key takeaways you can bring to the review, usually we have between 5 and 15.
When you login to keytakeaway.io site, you are in dashboard.
How to set up your profile
If you log for the first time, on the left menu find Profile and set name, nickname, email address, social profiles information, etc.
Don’t forget a nice picture of you. If you don’t have account on gravatar.com, you should open it and connect your avatar with your registered email address.
Also, set your favorite book and favorite Key Takeaway (you can return and set this later as well).
How to add a book review
To add a review go to Books on the left menu, and then Add New Book. In Add New Items to Books page you need to fill Book Title, and in field under put some intro about book and the author.
Then you go to Key Takeaway Field and enjoy leaving all your takeaways. Pay attention that key takeaway needs to be:
- Standalone – it needs to stand out of the context of the book as each key takeaway can be quoted on the home page of the site,
- Inspiring – Make sure it at least inspired you,
- Actionable – or they carry a clear call to action;
In Custom Fields put Rating number out of 100, Author name, Rating description, ISBN number (you can find it in the Amazon listing of the book), URL to the book (usually on the Amazon), and Book Summary.
Rating description should be some short explanation of given rating, and the Book Summary your view of the book in several sentences.
On the right tray you need to check one of the Books Categories.
Always keep in mind that all of these records should be based on your experience, your personal feeling about the book, and the final goal of this effort is to leave trace and inspire someone who will read it.
